Responsible Use & Safety
If this is an emergency
If your teenager is in immediate danger, or you believe there is a risk of harm to themselves or someone else, contact your local emergency number or a recognised crisis line in your country right away. ThinkLikeTeens is not a crisis service and cannot respond to emergencies.
What this is
An educational perspective tool for parents and caregivers. It offers general interpretations of common teenage behaviour so that a parent can pause and think before responding.
What this is not
- Not therapy, counselling, or psychological treatment
- Not medical advice or diagnosis of any condition
- Not a risk assessment or safeguarding service
- Not advice directed at teenagers
- Not a replacement for professional support
When to contact a professional
Consider speaking with a family doctor, school counsellor or qualified mental health professional if you notice low mood most days for two weeks or more, withdrawal from friends and activities your teen valued, significant changes in sleep or appetite, falling school attendance, substance use, self-harm, or any talk of suicide. Raising a concern early is reasonable even if you are unsure it qualifies.
How we write about teenagers
Content is framed as possibilities rather than conclusions, avoids blame toward the parent or the young person, and does not name conditions. Where a topic touches safety, we say so plainly and point to professional support rather than attempting to handle it.
